Working with Coleg Sir Gâr
Students from the college have again been busy working with all the Great Danes at Cenninpedr Kennels during 2008/09 academic year. Both the show dogs, active and retired, as well as the constantly changing charity dogs have benefited from the attention given by the students and staff.
This has made assessment of the dogs easier and quicker as the students come in a wide age range and with varying dog experience. Help with grooming, bathing, feeding, cleaning kennels, exercise and administration of routine preventive medicine are gratefully appreciated by Gordon and Liz when it fits into student assessments for their City and Guilds Animal Care Awards.
This year is the first year that the foundation Welsh Baccalaureate qualification has been studied at the college and 12 students successfully completed their community service module of 30 hours each at the kennels, so the re-homing Danes were especially highlighted! The students received a certificate to mark their contribution to Great Dane Care.
3 Advanced Level students came here on work experience and a higher education student adopted a very challenging Dane after volunteering as a dog walker.
