Great Dane Care
Fundraising events are always at the top of our agenda. Below are details of donations, forthcoming events as well as some of our past fundraising efforts!

Thank You
Great Dane Care would like to thank all the people who have sent donations for the Great Dane Care 2012 calendar. Your donations are very much appreciated.
We also wish to thank Burn's Pet Nutrition for their continuing support and friendly advice to both us and new owners; Carmarthen Veterinary Centre and Smart Vets Wales whose excellent service has meant Danes leaving here in a healthy state; and finally Capital Cabs for their support and emergency response when we cannot collect Danes in an emergency.
We have again been touched & overwhelmed by the number of Christmas cards sent to us this year and would like to sincerely thank you for all the unfailing & ongoing support. We really do appreciate it.Wishing you all the very best for 2011 and please keep in touch.
Judy Smith
It was with deep regret that we learnt of the passing of Judy Smith in November this year. The officers and committee send our condolences to her husband Frank.
Both of them have been supportive of Great Dane Care since it started and regularly asked about the Great Danes in our care as well as giving donations, carrying out home checks and Judy has judged at our Companion Dog Show being a favourite with the young handlers who appreciated her good advice. Her cheery smile and encouraging comments along with the infectious laugh will never be forgotten.
We are heavily indebted to all the people who donated so generously to our charity and the Marie Curie nurses instead of buying flowers for Judy’s funeral. It shows how highly she was thought of and respected within the breed and by her many friends and neighbours.
Great Dane Care will ensure that every penny of this money will be used to improve the lives of the dogs that come in to be re-homed.
Laura Kemp - Charity Roller Derby
Another of our loyal & hardworking supporters, Laura Kemp has recently completed a Roller Derby in order to raise money for Great Dane Care. Laura skated 26.6 miles on quad skates, by doing eleven laps of the Goodwood racing circuit. Taking four and a half hours to complete the distance, Laura came an impressive 481st in the ranking. The exact amount raised is yet to be counted but is in excess of £200. Our sincere gratitude goes to you Laura, Thank You!
If you would like to make a donation towards Laura's marathon fundraising effort, you can now donate via your mobile phone. Just text the message DANE01 plus the amount (e.g. £5) to 70070. It's as simple as that! You can donate £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10.

Richard Northcott - Charity Walk
We would like to offer our sincere gratitude to Richard Northcott for raising much needed funds for Great Dane Care. Richard walked (alone and in the dark for some of the journey!) from his home in Crumlin near Caerphilly to the Great Dane Care kennels on August 13th 2011. He started his journey at midnight and arrived with us at 7pm the same evening. The exact amount raised is yet to be counted but is in excess of £500. If you would like to make a donation towards Richard's heroic fundraising effort, you can now donate via your mobile phone. Just text the message DANE01 plus the amount (e.g. £5) to 70070. It's as simple as that! You can donate £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10.

2011 Kennel Refurbishment
Work on our kennels is almost finished and we are extremely grateful to Graham for hours of dedicated work. The new improved kennels really need to be seen to be appreciated. This means that we now have safe housing for the rescue dogs and it's a much more pleasant place for us to work and for the dogs to be in.
Thank You
Great Dane Care would like to thank all the people who have sent donations increased by the messages on the Great Dane Owners Forum and Great Dane Art calendar sales. Also much indebted to the owners, old and new, sending news of their rescue dogs. Your donations are very much appreciated especially as the latest government New Year's gift is an increase of 20% on any veterinary drugs that we need to give the dogs such as wormers, flea treatment and the drugs used for neutering. This will increase the cost of neutering by almost £17 per dog.
Liz & Gordon were overwhelmed by the number of Christmas cards and due to the appalling weather and roads conditions have been unable to reply to all sent. Wishing you all the best for 2011 and please keep in touch.
